 The
Front Porch Services (FPS) System contains
a comprehensive reports system that
helps ISPs better understand how subscribers
are utilizing the network both at a
macro and a micro (subscriber) level.
The ability to quickly recognize trends,
gather specific subscriber data, and
proactively schedule PorchLight messaging
gives the ISP a competitive edge to
improve service and reduce costs. For
example, the ISP can target customer
service messages or captive portals
to subscribers who might be high bandwidth
users or potential email spammers.
Online Advertising can be used to target
ads to subscribers in specific geographic
areas (based upon IP Address or network
access number), or those who visit
a certain site or group of sites.

With the information provided from our reports, ISPs can take
action by targeting messaging services to specific subscribers
or groups of subscribers. For example, ISPs can target:
| • |
New subscribers with
the Terms of Service agreement, requiring
their acceptance in order to continue
using the network. |
| • |
Groups of subscribers based on
geography or category of interest
with relevant advertising. |
| • |
Potentially affected subscribers
with software patches or virus alerts
and fixes. |
| • |
High bandwidth users with Terms
of Service reminders or up sell to
a higher bandwidth service plan. |
| • |
Subscribers most likely to switch
ISPs, promoting your services to
reduce churn. |
| • |
Network email users of scheduled
downtime. |
| • |
Outbound email spammers in violation
of the Terms of Service agreement. |
| • |
Sources of inbound spam. |

Monitor specific port usage and send messages to subscribers with
traffic on that port. Certain virus threats can be contained
quickly with limited resources.
VIRUS
OUTBREAK
Situation: A regional
ISP has seen increases in both email traffic and network
traffic on uncommon ports shortly after a recent virus
outbreak.
Desired Results: The ISP wants to use
the FPS System to determine if the virus was loose on
their network, see who was infected, and provide a method
for them to quarantine and remove it.
Front Porch's Unique Solution: Using
the FPS Reports system the ISP would designate ports
(specific to the virus) for the PorchLight to monitor.
Then they would query the reports to generate a list
of subscriber usernames that had traffic on those ports
and were possibly infected. Next the ISP would target
a message to the generated subscriber list from the Port
Survey report. The message would inform subscribers that
their computer may be infected with the virus and include
links to virus removal sites and virus fixes. Subscribers
receiving the message could take one of the recommended
actions to quarantine and remove the virus if found.
Results: This solution enables the ISP
to proactively address the virus outbreak, while decreasing
customer service costs and improving the overall subscriber
experience.
