FP Job Description: Product Manager

REPORTS TO:  Director of Product Management

POSITION:  Non-Exempt Status

Job Description
The Product Manager is responsible for the product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, including: gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, contributing to the product vision, and working closely with engineering, sales, marketing and support to ensure customer/key stakeholder satisfaction goals are met. The Product Manager’s job also includes ensuring that the product supports the company’s overall strategy and goals. A successful candidate has a passion for writing functional requirement documents and is very creative in written and oral communication.

The Product Manager is expected to:

  1. Master existing product functionality
  2. Assist customers in implementation of product and user experience
  3. Help global sales staff educate prospective customers
  4. Assist directors and senior management in product strategy and roadmap
  5. Own several product lines and shepherd their entire lifecycle
  6. Interview key stakeholders on required product functionality
  7. Write super-descriptive functional requirements
  8. Deliver business requirement documents
  9. Host review meetings and evangelize the product/feature internally and externally
  10. Train customers, partners, sales staff and field engineering on new products
  11. Research integration opportunities with compatible third party products
  12. Nurture close relationships with relevant industry working groups
  13. Review and prioritize incoming feature requests
  14. Work with external third parties to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities
  15. Run beta and pilot programs with early-stage products and samples
  16. Be an expert with respect to the competition
  17. Act as a leader within the company
  18. Join sales calls and handle questions on functionality (including outside of normal hours)
  19. Occasional attendance at trade shows/client locations
  20. Develop HTML content and maintain various websites, edit scripts and xml files
  21. Prepare and edit various marketing material for print and web
  22. Demo products at tradeshows
  23. Author and maintain product release notes, documentation and help systems.
  24. Other duties and tasks as assigned

Required experience and knowledge

  1. Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products
  2. Experience in the internet industry
  3. Technical background, with experience in networking, web design or advertising
  4. Must be able to travel 15% of the time and maintain a current passport
  5. Examples and at least one sample of an effective document created in the past
